Peter, I installed RedHat onto my brothers Excel 2700C (I think).
It has PCCard Slots (PCMCIA) and it uses a SIS In built Network card. It works not a problem Only thinkg that doesn't work is the WinModem that's built in. Clevo is the 'main manufacturer' of the Excel laptops .. try taking a look at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com and specifically http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/clevo.html That might help you get going. maybe you might strike lucky with the chipset of the WinModem that it comes with, the hard part will be 'pairing' the 'Excel/Highlander' model to the Equiv Clevo model, but once your done there, your home. Installing Xwindows was a bit of a doosey, but I ended up finding the EXACT working answer here (after trying many others XF86Config files) http://www.arcetri.astro.it/~lfini/LinuxLaptops/Clevo2700C/ Regards Ramon > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, 2 May 2002 8:30 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [SLUG] Cheap Laptops and Linux > > > Hello, > I'm interested in getting a laptop but since I'm a student > I have to go with the > cheap options.
