Hi people,
Im using Mandrake 8.1 which comes with the 2.4.8 kernel. I recently
downloaded and compiled the 2.4.18 kernel and everythign went fine. after a
reboot there were no error messages at all that i could see, BUT when I try
to compile stuff I get error messages about unresolved symbols. In more
details it talks about unresolved symbols in some kernel modules (they
appear to be some chinese language modules or something...i dont remember
installing them!).
in /lib/modules i have 3 directories:
2.4 2.4.8-26mdk 2.4.18

the directory for 2.4.18-26mdk is the default kernel..the one shipped with
mandrake, 2.4.18 is obviously the one i compiled, but 2.4 has me
stumped...in that directroy there is a directory called chinese and in that
directory there are modules obviously..but the thing is i dont remember
installing these..i know nothing of the chinese language...are these
installed by default, do they affect the operation of mandrake and in which
way, how do i remove them safely if i can?

at the end of the modules.dep file in the 2.4.18 directory, it made
reference to those chinese modules. I'm guessing thise is why i'm getting
errors about unresolved symbols when trying to compile my NVIDIA kernel
module.

when i use the 2.4.18 kernel everything works fine except X, because I cant
compile the kernel module or the GLX driver for my 3D accelerator. I have
removed the old drivers compiled for the 2.4.8 kernel.

i would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks heaps.
