I don't know as I've never used a low end {:-).
My 2c. Generally you will get best image from a print made from the
negative, rather than the negative itself. As far as transparencies
(slides) go, it is debatable. Often the print taken off the slide looses
quality in the final print, but blowing up the transparency can be just
as fraught.
