Ahh I love days like today! (NOT)

--- This is just an informal, 'For those interested' Post ---

My HDD in my development server died on the weekend,
the server stayed running on the network (pinging, but
pretty much all services stopped responding)

I knew what it was before I even looked... :-(

The Main Drive had just stopped responding, and
a reboot showed it not detecting upon boot.

The Motherboard looks all okay, detecting other HDD's so i've
had to accept the fact that it's the drive..

Suspecting that it has failed due to getting too hot.
(I think I had a problem with this same drive from where I got
it about 18 months ago - so silly me was developng on thin ice)

I have placed the HDD in an anti-static bag, and sealed
it well with Glad Wrap (couldn't find a ZIP Lock Bag) and
it's now in the freezer. (yes, some would know this trick, others
can read about it here)

(this came from TechRepublic originally from memory)

I have a spare 10G drive I am going to load up with Debian
and see if I can at least mount this sucker and copy my data off.

So .. I'll let you know How I go,

(** ahh yes, and of course, my last backup was 2 months ago --
always look after you own stuff the worst, 'a builders house is never
finished')
