I am thinking of buying the Compaq Evo 800v
The specs are

Mobile Intel Pentium  4 1.7GHz
256 MB DDR SDRAM
Type III Mini PCI 56K (V.92) soft modem, (LOM) integrated 10/100 NIC
DVD/CD-RW Combination
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, 64-bit video graphics

Has anyone installed linux on this laptop.
I understand that the modem will not work (Lucent win modem), but will the NIC (Intel PRO/100 P Mobile Combo Adapter)
There is no floppy drive, will this stop me installing linux. (Suse 8.0 Pro maybe)
Will the screen work ? (15 svga)

I am a complete virgin when it comes to laptops/notebooks as I have never had one before.

Would I be better off to buy a different laptop, Asus L3800 or Toshiba Satalite Pro 6100
recently reviewed in APC.

I really want the laptop to run Linux and want to aviod making a expensive mistake($4000+).

I have looked on the internet for info on the three mentioned models but no joy.

If anyone could help please.

Thanks

John
