I'm sure your performance comments are right, but for the price ($16.50 for 10/100 version) I can't complain about the rtl8139. Those of you with intel cards (eepro100 driver) might want to try the e100 driver instead. It's only available as a module from intel's website but it works a lot better than the eepro100. We had a bunch of intel rack machines at work with various network problems (82257/8) and crap performance. Changing drivers fixed it.
