have you tried running it under X windows?  (often by running "xdosemu")

at least then you should be able to kill it easier (and avoid some
direct-access graphics hardware issues).

you could mess with the vesa stuff, i had it working once upon a time
with my matrox millenium2, but its been a long while since i ran
dosemu on the console directly.  (and the tnt2 is probably a long way
from the original vesa cards of yore)
