Nothing suspicious in the logs... how are you starting X? If you're kicking
it off with startx, and you don't have a ~/.xinitrc, it will just quit out
because it has nothing to do.

Not a failure, but not much of a success either. ;-)

Put something like the following in there:

  exec /usr/bin/wmaker
