Download the regionset utility which is included in the dvd_disc archive. http://www.linuxtv.org/download/dvd/dvd_disc_20000215_css.tar.gz I have used this successfully to change the region of my dvd-rom to 0 (meaning that it will play discs from all regions) Untar the archive - cd to the dvd_disc_200000215 directory and do a make all. run the regionset utility. If you get an error, your drive may not be /dev/dvd. Run the utility with the device of the dvd drive (perhaps /dev/scd0 or /dev/hdb, whatever). It will ask you whether you want to change the region, then what region you want to change to. Say 0. Worked for me, though YMMV...
