Not entirely true (AFAIK). Older style region protection will allow play on a region 0 player. However the newer style protection (Charlies Angels/Patriot/Perfect Storm) force you to have the right region. This is the difference between 'multi region' and 'region free' dvd players. Interestingly enough, my Vaio can play dvd's from any region without any modifications.......
