I don't know if it'll quite fit what you're looking for, but (apart from the usual suspects, which others have mentioned), I find "Open Source: The Unauthorized White Papers" to be an interesting read. It's by Donald K. Rosenberg, published by M & T books (but it might also be hiding under the UDG Books Worldwide name), the ISBN is 0-7645-4660-0. I'd give it to you in a nicer format if my SO the librarian were here to help me decode all the info. <g> It's a fairly even-handed analysis of OSS, why it works, why everyone has their own pet licence, and the issues that OSS has and will face. It's copyright 2000, which makes it a little dated in this fast-paced world, but I only found it recently and thought it read well even now. I like the suggestion of another poster in this thread, though - dump the assigned text and give a bunch of websites. With the links that are there, students will be more likely to delve deeply into the subject matter and come out with a different set of ideas and opinions, rather than all talking from the same set of ideas. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- #include <disclaimer.h> Matthew Palmer, Geek In Residence http://ieee.uow.edu.au/~mjp16 -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group - http://slug.org.au/ More Info: http://lists.slug.org.au/listinfo/slug
