what I usually do to configure an alias ip is
cp /etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifcfg-eth1
/etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifcfg-eth1:0

then I vi /etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifcfg-eth1:0

I modify device from device=eth1 to device=eth1:0
then I modify the ip address, mask, and network.
save and quit and away you go. an alias ip address
