I think it's worth the extra effort (and probably you save a few bucks, too) if you just do it yourself. The only advantage of using a job agency is that they have a shitload of resumes on file and they can simply "scan" for keywords (such as 'linux', 'php', etc)Yeah so company ABC Holdings Corporation does not use an agency but puts three of its low level managers onto the job of vetting all applications. 3 x $60.00 / hour = $180 / hour round it to say $200/hour 300 applications for the Windows sys admin. Ok lets spend 15 minutes on each one and 1 hour discussion for the top 20 of them. Thats 50 hours at $200/hour = $10,000 + $4000 = TOTAL of $14,000 already + add in lost productivity cause those managers were not managing but looking over 300 applications.
Since they make such a high commission by placing someone, I don't think they put tooo much interest into whether it's the right person or not. :)
They seem to forward an awful lot of resumes to the actual company with the job vacancy anyway, so I guess you still have to waste managers time & money interviewing the ones that got past the are-you-a-dropkick-interview.
Anyway, that's just how I feel about job agencies. :-)
