I'm sure they'd just say `You're not supposed to alter the Makefile, it's not a config file,' and they're kind of right. Then I'd say `But surely it's bad design to not even check that the files you're replacing haven't been modified by the user, though?', and from there it'd devolve into an argument about the 101 other things I hate about rpm, and they'd get pissed off with me. :-) But I may be able to live with apt-rpm. Seems like other people see design problems in rpm, but have actively done things to fix them.
