First things first, you really need to fix your mail client and log in
as your own user - not root.

Root should ONLY be used for administering the machine, not for day to
day tasks.  It's a security risk and, if you're a 'newbie', you can end
up doing something that can trash you box.

Most, if not all, distributions ask you to create a user on install.  Be
sure to login as that user and configure things like your mail client to
show your real email address (not [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Once you've done that, you can start getting replies to your mail.
