I have a bunch of setup Q, hope someone can help:

I'm setting up RH73 on Cel900, I have RH73 pressed CDs and RH August
02 errata CD

I've installed from CDs, then, did 'rpm -F *' from the errata CD;
that updated a number of packages, including kernel, the system was now
starting with a newer kernel OK.

I now setup dial up connection, and, run 'up2date' tool, selected kernel
and few other apps, and, proceeded.

it downloaded all selected stuff OK, then, installed.

when I got back, the 'up2date' tool said 'installation 100% completed' BUT,
the tool itself was 'busy' and not allowing any access to that session.

the system was running OK, 'top' didn't indentify anything running at 100%

I left it for a while, but, the 'up2date' tool was still 'busy'

not knowing what to do, I eventually issued 'reboot'

that closed the command session, and, started closing KDE, though, then the
system locked up solid, keyboard would beep even on 'Ctrl' or 'Alt' keys

what is one supposed to do in such situation ?

should I have tried to kill the 'up2date' tool, rather than shutdown ?

I did Ctrl-Alt-BS that shuts off the power,

the system started OK,

this time, GRUB offers two kernels:
2.4.20-18-7
2.4.18-5 (default)

Q: do I need to re-do the boot floppy for the new kernel ?
boot floppy was made during install from pressed CDs

Q: when issuing 'reboot', can I specify which kernel to reboot from ?

I've edited GRUB to default to 2.4.20-18-7

when the system starts, I have BOTH 'postfix' and 'sendmail' starting,
that's not correct, is it ??
how do I stop sendmail from starting ?

BUT, the main problem is:

before running 'up2date' I've created a modem dialup, then, used the dialup
to run up2date

NOW, the dial up connection won't connect;
I've delted the dialup, and, recreated, but:

I select the ppp/modem interface, click 'activate', nothing happens

where do i see what error it has ?

how do I issue a dial up connection from command line ?
