Putty is under the MIT licence (see http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/licence.html ), so is Free (libre). The licence page notes: In particular, anybody (even companies) can use PuTTY without restriction (even for commercial purposes) and owe nothing to me or anybody else.
