Thanks for the replies. I understand the larger costs are associated with the support contracts.
I have done further investigation and the latest versions of SuSE Professional are shipped without any server applications (8.2). So it would seem that it is not possible to get the SLES OS without the expensive support contracts??? Redhat seem to have done things a little differently with their three different levels of Enterprise server (mentioned below).
