I thought I'd make this offering to the God-of-all-technical-knowledge that is Slug, because it's very annoying that the windows solution "just works" (dammit).
There's a whole other
story there about the evil-ness of Linux-for-dummies approach of RH hiding the need to understand how things work ... but I won't go there.
As has been suggested, use wvdial or something similar (that hides all the backend stuff) and you'll get "windows" like behaviour....or use Grant's suggestion.
If RH tries to hide things...windows is worse....if windows didn't "hide" things then you'd probably understand what needs setting up under linux also....having said that not everyone cares how things happen, just that they do happen. Hence the "to hide or not to hide" debate...
