Has anyone had any actual experience with scanning 35mm slides using
Linux and any scanner? How well do they come out, etc, etc.

Jill and I have an Epson Perfection 2400 PHOTO
It works perfectly for slides under Linux and sane. We aquire directly to the Gimp.

We purchased that based on researching the linux scanner compatibility at http://www.sane-project.org/
When I sent the product warranty card in to Epson (not legallly necessary in Aust) I wrote on it that I bought their product because it works under Linux.

Most interesting is that folloing the scanner HOWTO we had the system up and running in 15 minues. With Epson drivers for Mac OSX we have never been able to get the scanner to communicate with the Apple TiPowerBook. I ahd thought it would be difficult under Linux and dead easy under Apples OSX. Just the reverse - times are a changing :-)
