My father doesn't touch type on any keyboard. He's very much
a hunt and peck kinda guy. Not al that fast either :-).

Done this but I got

   Couldn't find rules file (xfree86)

Turned out some of the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb directory was
not world readable. Anyway, it now seems to work.

My father and I will have to play around with it to see if it
does everything he needs. A good start is that I can actually
write his name, Joo, correctly on my own keyboard in Sylpheed.

I suppose the thing I don't get is how this method relates
to the MultiKey approach that seems to be listed on all the
web pages out there.

I tried that and I currently have LANG set to en_AU.UTF-8.

On the receive side, viewing the portuguese accents always worked
correctly.

Definitely not an issue :-).

Thanks very much for your help Nick.

Cheers,
Erik
