I used Suse 6.3 (?) and Suse 8.0 Professional (?). I don't really like the way Suse lays things out in a big database style (albeit flat file) for all, or many, of the configuration options for applications.
This was before I found debian. Now I use Debian, it is the ease of which I can quickly update and find packages to install, and if need be grab the source modify, repackage, and install as required. It is just so simple. On the other hand, my girlfriend used Suse for a while (before she had to go back to using windows for some games), and for her it was easy. Install and it is done. No mucking around like you need to on Debian, (not that there is much mucking around to do). It just worked. But that is where her needs and my needs are different. She wants something that works, and doesn't care about xyz latest app. where I on the other hand like to fiddle with the insides and tweak and tweak until I brake it. (I use to use Slackware). But I also need a stablish system for work everyday, so Debian fills my needs this way. I would definitely get a copy and give it ago, esp on the AMD64. On another note, I was thinking of getting an AMD64 system, what is your experience with this so far? I have run linux on HPPA and Sun boxes, but not as a desktop, so I am very interested in trying this out. Have fun, Greg.
