So, sounds like I am lucky I have been given an Ascend Pipeline 75 Remote LAN access box.

I've got a pair of the 75's little brother (the pipeline 50's) running at my site, one active one spare, and they have been bullet-proof for the last 3 years. Simple setup, good support and was simply a matter of hooking up the NT1->BRI and then a cross-over cable to my firewall.

They will be retired soon when the WiFi internet connection in up and running :) 11Mbps here I come! [1]

The other alternative is to use the USB interface (of the Telstra box) direct to my Firewall box (currently IPCop). Is this do-able?

Do-able, but if you've got the Pipeline75, use that instead - much simpler and it will also do stateless firewalling for stuff you REALLY want blocked before it even hits your firewall. The pipelines have remote syslog capability too, so you can still get all those interesting stats to compare with your bill.

Cheers,

James

[1] Insert standard disclaimer about multi-homed networks and bandwidth sharing etc. 11Mbps peak, dropping to maybe 512kbps-ish during peak times. Still better than 128kbps I$DN with Bigpong-direct.
