I have Xandros 2 SE installed from Magazine Cover CD/DVD (forget which one), and have had absolutely no problems with it.

Initially one could only get updates from Xandros site, but then they modified their package manager to access debian sites.

On the other hand, I have had Fedora Core 1 with problems, Fedora Core2 update to Fedora Core 1 crashed. New install of FC2 works OK.

Problems with install of Mandrake 10 Community Edition.

Problems with hard disk install of Knoppix 3.4 concerning 'Net connection via modem/router.

Definitely try Xandros. If you need to purchase it, just get the $39.95 US version (no Windows connectivity via CrossOver Office or plugins). The Open Circulation Edition (free for non-commercial use) limits your CD Burner to its minimum speed, but that should be easily overcome by installing the K3b CD/DVD authoring package I suspect (XAndros burns cd's by default from its' file manager, which I don't use),

Go to http://www.xandros.com/products/home/desktopoc/dsk_oc_intro.html to download the free version.
