As mentioned by others OpenVPN is an excellent option.

I have spent a lot of time getting FreeS/WAN to work and OpenVPN took a
fraction of the effort (mostly, rearranging things in my own brain!).

The other excellent thing about it is that it will work straight through
NAT (outbound) without any dramas so a dream to use from the inside of
most ADSL modem/routers.

For inbound access you will need to do port forwarding or something
similar depending on your setup.

The current stable version (1.6) requires a separate daemon for EVERY
tunnel so not particulalry scalable but more than adequate for home use.

Version 2 is a forking daemon that will really be scalable but still in
beta.

P.S. I did install the Windows client which was quite easy but haven't
used it much.  Haven't tried the Mac OSX version.
