Dear Sydney Linux,
I am a member of a small computer club and we have some computers which
need operating systems. The memory is 32MB so the installation must be
small. I cannot understand why most of the Linux systems need so much
memory. I have an old Win3.1 which runs Microsoft Word with Exel and
Powerpoint plus other programs and runs well with 4MB.
Is a Linux core the basic program which would allow small programs to
be installed?

Ray,
There is an older distribution of Linux called "Corel Linux ". I have version 1.2 somewhere abouts. It will setup and run perfectly well in machines from 10 or so years ago. It will happily run Wordperfect Office Millenium edition for Linux which you can still find at some markets. That should do the job for you. There are also some other versions available that should do the job you want but Corel is the easiest distribution to set up that I have ever used.

Stay well and happy
Heracles
