Luke,

From the statistics you provided, GNOME(G) and KDE(K) have mix results:
1. Real-time G is slightly quicker than K.
2. User-time G is almost 50 percent quicker than K.
3. System-time G is almost twice slower than K.

It appears that K loads quicker but G runs faster.

Ok, here we go
to be fair, i rebooted the system for the Gnome test
and then rebooted into KDE for a fresh start too

Gnome:

First instance on a fresh system then closed firefox
$ time firefox
No running windows found
real    0m10.639s
user    0m1.909s
sys     0m0.144s

Second start, this time i guess some stuff was cached
$ time firefox
No running windows found
real    0m2.334s
user    0m1.821s
sys     0m0.129s

Second instance of firefox (from second start)
$ time firefox

real    0m0.394s
user    0m0.020s
sys     0m0.029s

KDE:

First instance on a fresh system then closed firefox
$ time firefox
No running windows found
real    0m11.911s
user    0m1.915s
sys     0m0.199s

Second start
$ time firefox
No running windows found
real    0m2.452s
user    0m1.878s
sys     0m0.126s

Second instance of firefox (from second start)
$ time firefox

real    0m0.433s
user    0m0.030s
sys     0m0.015s

so it seems that Gnome may be quicker...
but then again...to give KDE the benefit of the doubt. Gnome basically is a fresh install never played with...I use kde constantly, so it has my window decrations, my desktop, my themes, my apps running etc...so i guess there is more stuff going on in my kde than a fresh kde install.

And i dont know if fixing whatever i did to the graphics would make both a little quicker as well

Luke

Well if you want to do any tests...name them, and ill run them.

I understand you ran firefox on KDE to get your results.

Are you able to run firefox on GNOME to get similar statistics ?

Do not change anything else, please, just the desktop.

Thanks.

O Plameras
