I'm posting this from a Kubuntu-lappy with a DLink DWL-G650 (hardware revision C3) PCMCIA card. It's an Atheros-based card and works well with the madwifi drivers. In fact it's a "super atheros" chipset whatever the hell that is - I think it means you can get 108Mbps under ideal circumstances with a supported access point (assuming the planets are aligned correctly and the phase of the moon is right and you hold your tongue just so, and....). Kubuntu didn't recognise the card from the installation but a quick download from the madwifi CVS tree and kernel source[1], on another machine, and transfer via my pen drive to the lappy. Recompile and voila. Supports WPA too if that's important. Can't help with wifi-PCI stuff -- that's all Winders-based in my world. Cheers, James [1] apparently you can get away with just the kernel headers to compile madwifi drivers, but I've never tried it. Just make sure the kernel source and headers match the version of the RUNNING kernel. -- Coding is easy; All you do is sit staring at a terminal until the drops of blood form on your forehead. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
