Yes, neither are absolutes. 1. What's decent? Are you playing tux racer or quake3? Open source are often good enough. They only lack when playing high end games. I don't think Erik is interested in those. 2. Recent story on slashdot says the latest (9 Jun 2005) binary drivers for ATI cards are pretty good. Haven't tried them myself.
