Hiya,

I mentioned a related problem to this earlier in the year (that I could only intermittently watch the video at SMH) a little earlier in the year and since then it's got worse.

Mplayer worked sometimes and they used to have Win or RealPlayer as an option. Now they're just using Win.

I subscribe to the daily, so I've e-mailed them before and am now going to write (paper that is - newspapers are a bit like Politicians: a letter is worth dozens of e-mails) to them as well.

The best solution I've found so far is to install Opera and use the Gxine plug-in. That works pretty well.

Mplayer has serious problem at times with the site and the Win media files they use - Not Happy Jan!

Whatever their reasoning, it's pretty poor.

Regards,

Patrick

1. Why has it happened?
2. Is there a workaround to stream windows media in linux?

Because they're idiots? I'm sure they'd say something like it makes
it easier for their users.

mplayer and xine play most Windows streams. There are also plugins
available to embed them in your browser, so the Javascript shenanigans
will probably work.

Realplayer was never that acceptable anyway. For a long time I haven't
had it installed and instead opted for WMP streams through mplayer.
