Bullshit. There are many times in life where a sudden change in circumstances forces a person to re-evaluate their current commitments and make changes. I don't remeber if Jeff officially stated the reason for his resignation, but thats not important. It may have been increasing work commitments, illness in the family or any one of a a dozen other things. I think it is a sign of Jeff and SLUG's maturity that this episode was handled with such ease.
