Hi there,

I'm having trouble booting into Linux or Windows from GRUB.

The physical arrangement of the disks and the dvds was changed to accommodate a 2nd windows data disk, while previously having only one hard disk per system

When the system was rebooted in current format, GRUB hung on bootup into windows or Linux.

Currently:
IDE 1 cable goes to windows program disk (master) and Linux program (slave) disk.
IDE 2 is running 1 dvd rom and the Windows data disk.

Here's the current fstab indication:

/proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/sys /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
/dev/pts /dev/pts devpts mode=0622 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/auto/floppy auto user,noauto,exec,umask=000 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/auto/cdrom auto user,noauto,exec,ro 0 0
# Added by KNOPPIX
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/hdd1 ntfs noauto,users,exec,ro,umask=000,uid=knoppix,gid=knoppix

/dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 ntfs noauto,users,exec,ro,umask=000,uid=knoppix,gid=knoppix

/dev/hdb1 /mnt/hdb1 ext3 noauto,users,exec 0 0

/dev/hdb5 none swap defaults 0 0

/dev/sda /mnt/sda auto noauto,users,exec 0 0

*****
ha1 is the primary windows disk
hdd1 is the win data disk
hb1/hb5 is the Linux disk

My system:
80G Win master hdd
40G Linux (slave) hdd
40G win data hdd
1 x dvd rom (now not connected), 1 dvd burner/rom
1 x fdd

Originally, IDE1 was connected to Win master and the Linux disk (as it is now)
IDE2 was connected to both cd roms (win data hdd was not used).

With this slight physical re-arrangement so that the IDE2 cable will reach the Win data disk and one cd rom, the GRUB boot is hanging both for Win and Linux. IDE1 is connected to the Win master and linux slave.

Using Knopix, both Hard disks (Linux & Win) can be viewed and data retrieved, but the boot directories cannot be updated/reset to boot automatically from GRUB?

Any views on how this GRUB and the boot files can be reset (from knopix), such that the system can be booted into either Win or Linux from GRUB?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark.
