Hi gang,
I have installed fc5 on my new laptop and I am having no end of bother
getting the wireless connection going.
I have downloaded the firmware for my wireless card and installed it:

Perhaps, all you have to do is update your kernel and the rest to fix your
problem.
The immediate thing to do is to upgrade your kernel to 2.6.16-1.2111_FC5.
This is the latest kernel as far as I know.
To make the upgrade cleanly and gracefully, a number of things to check:
1. Check that in /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory only the following files have
'enabled=1', namely:
1.1. fedora-core.repo
1.2 fedora-extras.repo
1.3 fedora-updates.repo
The rest should have 'enabled=0'.
2. Once this is done, do this command:
2.1 #yum update kernel
2.2 Reboot using the updated kernel (This should be 2.6.16-1.211_FC5 as
this is
the latest).
3. Once rebooted, do this command:
3.1 #yum update (This might take a while, so be sure coffee is heated).
This will also update your ipw modules just as it will update everything
else.
3.2 When the previous is completed do this command to check:
3.2.1 #yum list | grep ipw
This is let you check visually what you have in your installation as well
as check that your installation is complete and consistent.
Then, try using your wireless.
I added the connection as eth1 in network config and sometimes I can
activate it, but most times it sits and stares at me. Has anyone any
suggestions on how to activate the wireless connection? Sorry I am a
bit vague but I am stilll ramping up on linux.
On a related topic I tried the live breezy cd on the laptop and X
wouldn't start.
Is anyone running dapper with a 2915ABG Intel wireless card/nx8220
laptop? I haven't dlled DD yet but if I get some positive feedback I
will do.
Ta
Tim
Hope this helps.
