Check it's listening there:
      netstat -an | grep 7100
tcp        0      0 0.0.0.0:7100            0.0.0.0:*  LISTEN     

Also I think that the fp string is incorrect now I look at it:
It should be
   tcp/servername:7100

Do 
   xset +fp tcp/xfs:7100
(if the name of the machine with your fontserver is xfs)
on the machine that is served by the fontserver.
