Sometimes some gear just will not work correctly with other gear.
It's the implementation of the protocols etc. by the manufacturers that
is the problem.
3com NICs will work with 3com switches but 3com NICs with Netgear
switches will cause a problem (for example only guys, but not
necessarily the case here).
Can you change the hardware so that it all matches?
I"ve seen it maybe a dozen times in 20 years in the computer game.
A particular monitor brand will not work with one brand PC but works
perfectly with other PC's.
a keyboard, a switch, a NIC, a router, a cable even in certain
situations just won't work with particular hardware.
Change it round and it works!
Try some other hardware mix and match and you may be surprised.

G'day all,
We've got Ubuntu and Debian machines connected to our gigabyte networks.
Ubuntu kernel: 2.6.15-26-amd64-server
Debian kernel: 2.6.8.3-k7-smp
(Processors are AMD Athlon64 dual-cores.)
Both machines don't seem to be getting through data throughput across
the network. We're getting 10 ~ 12 MB/s (usu. ~11MB/s).
By my calculations we should be getting around ten times this. Netgear
switches are being used.
Is anyone aware of any issues that would be causing this?
