I just installed Xubuntu on a laptop.  A previous installation (from the
same media) did not see the wireless card, but the latest did.

I managed to configure Wep through the gui.  The trick was knowing the
format that it expected the WEP key - Pasting in the WEP key using the same
format as the XP configuration dialog didn't raise any errors, yet still I
couldn't ping anywhere.  No on-screen hints that the hex digits are meant to
be separated by hyphens in groups of 4, and that it has to be prefixed with
"restricted ".  Perhaps that would have been obvious to anyone who knows
what they're doing (not me) or who has configured it through a .conf file in
the past.
