About two weeks ago I did the dapper->edgy update.

Trust me don't bother, yes I did get it finally installed via the net
update procedure but for reasons unknown to me some things didn't get
installed  (like the kernel).

Just backup your /home directory and start afresh, it will be quicker
and you will retain more hair on your scalp.

PS I used adept to update in my case not apt.
