I bought a new printer, a Lexmark E120n.

I'm using CUPS with it. It's set in CUPS to be the default printer.

The PPD file I'm using is one that was produced by Lexmark itself. The file was produced to be used with the Mac OS, but someone modified it to work with Linux and (with a tiny further change by me, converting all "Letter" defaults to "A4") it works satisfactorily for me.

While browsing at the CUPS site when setting up the printer, I discovered the existence of the X Printing Panel ("XPP") utility and installed it. I'm able to use XPP by calling it from the command line, but I'd like it to appear automatically whenever I print anything from within applications too.

I started by trying to get it appear automatically in Firefox, but without success.

When I click on "Print" in Firefox, I'm given a choice of 2 Printer Names: CUPS/Lexmark_E120n; and PostScript/default. The first appears by default. If I don't change it and just press "OK", XPP doesn't appear. If I change to the second Printer Name, PostScript/default, and then press "OK", XPP does appear. (I got that to happen by changing the Print Command in the Properties of PostScript/default so that it began with "xpp", rather than with "lpr".)

What I haven't been able to figure out is how to make PostScript/default the default Printer Name within Firefox.

Can anyone tell me how I can do that?

(Incidentally, I suspect CUPS/Lexmark_E120n now appears as the default Printer Name in Firefox simply because that printer is shown as the default printer in CUPS. I suppose what I want to do is to override that choice of default when printing in Firefox.)

Thank you,

Leslie
