Thanks for the replies thus far.
My script does all the usual things -- sorts by FQDN, deletes
duplicates, deletes vacationers and "no mails".
Sending one mail at a time takes too long and AFAICT tends just as much
to overload my ISP's server as sending the mail in batches. From a
purely efficiency point of view I would imagine that sending 10 mails
at a time over one-tenth of the number of connections would be the
preferred way -- after all, the Big 4 servers can handle 10 text-only
consecutive emails in their stride.
FWIW, when I wrote the script I plucked 10 out of the air for testing
purposes. My ISP, who is a friend, thought the question "rather quaint"
and plucked 20 out of the air.
