Some ISPs place restrictions on the total # of emails you can send, not just the total number of recipients. Optus will only let you send 300 emails per 12/24 hours (can't remember which). Some ISPs block port 25, so you have to use their mail servers. Internode doesn't have any set limits, but blocks port 25 by default on Home connections to reduce spamming (this block can be lifted in the online toolbox).
