Problem with both iPod and recent irivers is that they don't just show up as standard hard drives when you plug 'em in. Requiring special software to load music is just crap. And they then organize the music files in a way that suits them, not a way that suits me. > I want something that will plug into Ubuntu and Just Work (TM). After using (and hating) iTunes, I'm a bit > cautious of an iPod (I disliked the Drag n Drool interface, and the > lockin). I've got an iAudio X5 which is excellent. (Why do they all have to have an i in the name?) Supports OGG and FLAC, works as a USB mass storage. Stood up to the rigours of seven months backpacking around Europe. One of the features I bought it for was USB OTG support, but I've never tried it as you need a special OTG cable. It plays video but I've never tried that. No interest in watching video on a stupid tiny screen. My only complaints are that it requires a small dongle device in order to plug in power or USB and the battery isn't particularly easy to replace. My partner has the M3 and it's pretty much the same without the built-in screen. Instead it uses a little LCD attached to the headphone cable. The little LCD is interchangeable with my X5 too, which is impressive. The little dongle thing and the cradles are also interchangeable. The company has newer models, and they seem to be following common design principles through the range. Reviews here: http://iaudiophile.net/ If you end up buying one, there's a guy on Freecycle who is offering spare chargers. He works for a company selling rebadged versions of it and has dozens of them. I can dig out his details if needed. -- Rev Simon Rumble <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> www.rumble.net "The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place." - Douglas Adams on Windows '95. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
