I generally try not to be the cantankerous sysadmin traditionalist, but in
many cases, deep understanding of the config files is hugely advantageous to
your efficiency and effectiveness as a sysadmin. If you're shaving yaks [1]
doing sysadmin stuff when you have more interesting goals in mind, then they
can be infuriatingly stupid!

I do like a bit of DNS-in-LDAP myself. :-)
