Never mind. It was a "nice to have" curiosity and so far the answer is

You have a good point about not having (trivial) flash and other stuff,
though this is a  headless server.

As for amd64 binaries being slower on your amd64 machine than 32 bit
binaries - this sounds a bit surprising to me. Maybe it's a memory issue
(64-bit binaries being larger)?
My little experience is that amd64 systems feel faster on the right hardware
than their 32-bit counterparts (e.g. on my Core 2 Duo desktop at home),
that's the main motivation for providing binaries for them isn't it?
