I got a black one from Bing Lee for $470 on Wednesday. So far I love it! It actually seems smoother and faster than my desktop for some things (eg youtube) and actually has the lastest version of Skype so you can do video calls with the in builtltmicrophone and webcam.

Projects for the near future:
1. Get Compiz-Fusion working with Xandros (the OS the Eee PC comes with). Apparently this can be done.
2. Get a 2Gb 667Hz RAM fro upgrade - anyone know how to do this on the new '7C' serial number Eee PCs?
3. Find a way to be able to reinstall Xandros so I can try other operating systems. Well, not try them so much as install Fluxbuntu or Xubuntu. But I want to have Xandros on hand in case it doesn't work. BTW, Xandros is not a bad OS. I'm not sure what I was expecting after their bed games with Microsoft, but the OS is pretty good. I don't usually like KDE, but I really suits the Eee PC.
4. Find out how to get the ultra cheap copies of Windows (tm) the are promised to any Xandros user after the voucher agreementI alluded to above. Hey, I'm all for getting free or very cheap stuff!

Other notes:
1. The webcam is good and video Skype is great quality for both parties.
2. Wifi is simple and robust.
3. The screen actually has a better rez than most laptops, its just smaller. The only problem with this is having to side-scroll webpages.
4. If you have sausage fingers, start learning to type one handed.
5. Uses Amarok and open office, both of which work fine (open office works faster than on my desktop!).

I'll bring mine on Friday as well.

Anyone had a play with the Asus micro laptop?

Described here: http://tinyurl.com/ynnn9c

It runs some form of Linux, has no HDD, just 4 GB of flash.
Sounds ideal for travel ... but perhaps the 7" screen is
a bit too small.

Going for about $450 at JB Hifi and less on eBay.

cheers
