I've never had anything not work when putting knoppix CD in, and I use a lot of Gigabyte Ultra Durable series (have a D in the model name) boards for WinXP based systems.
My desktop currently runs on a GA-P35-DS3P and the gigabit LAN works fine (using Ubuntu 6.10 or 7.04, can't remember, still setting up again after a move). Audio seems to work fine too - I'm not using any of the surround or fancy outputs, just stereo. Server is running on an Athlon 64, Gigabyte board, can't remember the model number.
