Watch out if you need to do something other than RS-232 serial data over
them: the control and reporting of the additional control lines varies,
and on some USB to serial devices are specially wired for serial modems.
This, sadly, occasional varies between different hardware versions with
identical boxing, serial numbers, etc, from the same manufacturer as
well.
