Could it be that the troublesome letters have extra characters (digits, algebraic operators) marked on their keys? Try toggling the numlock. It could be that your default is to turn it on. I had a problem which sounds similar on a Sony Vaio. Whatever it is, you better investigate more before re-installing. This isn't windows. Try also booting from the live CD and see what you get there.
