Sure is a good "companion". I took a Linux 701 eeePC on holidays recently.

I've just edited the holiday video on my old Knoppix/Targa (Kino & my Camera
both use firewire)

The eeePC does a great job playing the Ogg clips - though you do need to use the
media manager rather than the video manager, or just click on the clip.
I guess if the  raw video was accessible to the eeePC,  it would cope with the
editing too.
