Thanks Ben and Elliot.
Followed your advice and problem with loosing sound was apparently fixed.
Then after saving youtube clips using Firefox's Download Helper plugin,
saved as mpg, problem resumed.
Solved when I changed Download Helper's prefs from ffmpg to mencoder.
Thnks
Bill

if it's anything like my setup you'll probably find pulseaudio keeps
breaking like it did on 8.04. I don't know what advantages pulse has
by my audio has been flaky, inconsistent and poor at handling
simultaneous inputs since I upgraded.
I usually just find the pid for pulseaudio and kill -9 it.

Hi Bill,
Just come back from holidays and while working my
way through my e-mail I saw your post.
Another option to attempt to resolve this problem
would be to go:
Kicker - System Settings - Sound System
Under the 'General' tab you'll see a heading
'Auto-suspend' for the sound system. Ensure "Auto
suspend if idle after:" box is ticked and then
choose 1 second.
This tends to work quite well for me.
Regards,
Patrick
