Hi, I have the setup described above on a Dell Latitude C640. The PCMCIA card was very cheap from eBay. It works when using it to mount various USB flash drives and other bits of USB 1/2 hardware.
The passport drive is formatted NTFS (a bit awful, but I need it to be this way). The drive works fairly well when attached to the laptops built in USB1.0 port (only one of these, at the back), but when trying to use it as a pseudo-backup device by typing rsync -av dirtobackup /media/My\ passport\backup .. it ran for a while and then rsync 'crashed' and the drive disconnected and reconnected. I'm guessing I'm asking too much of a simple USB 1.0 interface (though this is a little disturbing). Does anyone know how I would get the PCMCIA card to work with the drive ? I'm running Debian testing, kernel 2.6.26-???.
